History

  • Signed on 29/02/1980 by 21 founding members and the founding document of the Company under the tradename PAPHOS CITY BUSES (A.LE.PA) LTD. Established in 11/03/1980, under the Companies Act 1951 -- 1968 TBR. 113, Article 15 (I) as a Limited Company.
  • On 26/10/1984, the Company is declared by the Minister of Finance as the Regional Urban Bus Company (PEAL).
  • On 10/10/1990 the government announced a plan for financial and technical support of the Regional Companies (PEAL).
  • On 30/03/1991 the Bus Companies (PEAL) formed the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee of PEAL, in cooperation with the automobile Professional Organizations PEEA & SEAK to promote their demands in an  organised manner, for more effective and direct solutions of the current problems.
  • In 1993 ALEPA implemented a fully computerized system with the aim of improving the level of effectiveness of its current operations and customer service.
  • In 1997 ALEPA acquired its own privately owned facilities for the housing of its headquarters,  the mechanical  and coach maintenance workshop and the car washing machine including bus parking. 
  • In 2002 ALEPA become the first aquirer in Cyprus of 7 low floor buses with a ramp for the disabled persons. The introduction of low floor buses was a pioneering step on a Pancyprian scale.  In 2008 it added to the fleet another 7 buses with the same european standards.
  • With the accession of Cyprus to the European Union new harmonizing legislation was adopted to the existing status quo. Laws regarding access to the occupation of road transport laws N.101 (I) / 2001, N.171 (I) / 2002, N.36 (I ) / 2003 and the Regulations of 2002 (K.D.P.457/2002) in public road transport.
  • The Company founded in 2007 another Sub Company under the name "TOURIST COACH ENERGY Co Ltd" for an exclusive activity in the tourism sector such as organized excursions and other group transportation.
  • In 2008 the new State Pancyprian Federation Regional Urban, Rural and coach ( PEAL) was established with PEAL having enhanced status and role in place of the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee.

Purpose

  • The purpose of establishing the Company was the consolidation of road use of urban traffic area of Paphos (Single License 655/D) held by private motorists in urban areas to achieve the best possible coordination, organization and the upgrading of public transport in the urban area of Paphos under a unified command and address.

Aims and Objectives

  • The objectives of the Company will always be the best possible service for passengers on buses in the urban traffic area of Paphos. The objectives will be achieved through the continuous improvement in the quality of the bus service adopting modern European technology standards, improving scheduling and frequency of services, implementation of new or the expansion of existing services, always in accordance with the needs of the traveling public of the City , professional training of personnel, apsolute compliance of the itinerary programs, full maintenance and cleanliness of buses, the decent behavior of drivers and passengers over the strict observance of rules of the Company.

Strategic Objectives

  • The strategic objectives are to expand the company's activities in the tourism sector operating a tourist office and organizing bus tours throughout Cyprus. The implementation and use of new forms of consumable energy sources to replace the current polluting fuels. The energy challenge is to modernize our Company, which is currently under study. Applying any kind of new technology that will help to improve service quality as the acquisition of new bus technology, better information awareness of routes for passengers with new "smart" ways, the acquisition of modern equipment will help to increase productivity, functionality and savings.

The accession of Cyprus to the EU

The accession process of Cyprus to the EU opens new horizons for public transport. The timetables for the implementation of specific programs for public transport will accelerate the growth of hitherto degraded transport.

The new policy, announced by the government, to upgrade public transport is fully harmonized with EU directives and is expected in the next few years to bear important consequences such as:

• A full reorganization of passenger public transport means or the award of contract services from the government aimed at qualitative service for passengers.

• The gradual replacement of old with new technology buses.

• The implementation of infrastructure projects that will resolve or ease congestion.

• The facilitate the movement of buses by creating bus lanes, where possible, the existing road network and the implementaion of the new strategic urban planning.

• The new traffic arrangements to facilitate the control of traffic particularly in urban centers.

• The application of new methods for the movement of people by bus to the city centers  (park and ride) instead of using private vehicles causing congestion and people's discomfort on the road.

• The bus connection of the cities with Airports, with frequent routes, the rural regions with towns or places of work, education and entertainment services by extending the bus service until evening.

The above measures and others will contribute effectively to the success of social, economic and environmental objectives by reducing traffic accidents, saving national resources and protecting the environment from pollution.
